Happy holidays, friends! It’s been a while since my last post, and with unfortunate reasons, but I’m back! Time to share a little season’s greetings with each other and fill you in on some developments.
We had an excellent, sweet vacation in Missouri for Thanksgiving (a little more on that later), but now we’re back home in Texas. And of course, I happen to be sick. Again. (Lol) This time with some sort of relentless cough. You want to know something funny, though? In just two days, it’ll mark an official 1 year of being sick! Wow! I’ve set a personal record… (dripping with humorous sarcasm.) So if I haven’t connected with you, it’s because I haven’t slept a solid night through in 3 or 4 nights, and randomly fall asleep during the day for hours on end…hence why I missed my friend Kendall Lyons’s book signing today! (Kendall runs CartoonDailyNews and his new book, 22 Life Lessons for Personal Growth can be found at http://www.lulu.com/shop/kendall-lyons/22-life-lessons-for-personal-growth/paperback/product-21330156.html )
You know you’re exhausted when you’re consistently falling asleep during movies or TV shows or in the middle of reading. Even if it is old episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
New Reads
Speaking of reading, I finally have a Kindle!! So instead of hurting every time I want to hold and read a book, I can read in ease and peace and have just devoured some books. Trust me, LOVED Brandon Sanderson’s tome, The Way of Kings, but it was so heavy for me to hold. Beautiful, fantastic, crazy awesome book that builds in crescendo. Go buy it and enjoy.
Now, on my Kindle, I consumed The Remaining series by D.J. Moles, Human Experiment a memoir by Jane Poynter of her time in Biosphere 2, have been reading various survival and life sustainability books, flew through Arisen: Fortress Britain, and am currently reading Adamar by Scot C Morgan and Armageddon’s Children by Terry Brooks of Shannara fame. I had previously purchased Walls of Galbrieth by fellow blogger Alon Shalev in paperback, so I’ll get through it as my strength allows.
One may note that among these books, I’ve watched lots of documentaries about Hurricane Katrina, the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan, and various other shows from water crisis to blackouts to doomsday scenarios to Ring of Fire and finally Doomsday Preppers and Doomsday Castle.
Well, that’s a lot of bleakness, isn’t it? Especially for a holiday blog post special? From the book and movie World War Z (I’m reading it incrementally), to other zombie hits like Arisen and The Remaining (btw, the latter is utterly mind-blowing, if not for the abundance of pace-interrupting cussing it would have receive 5 stars from me, so like a 4.8)…the question is why all of this? I mean, I’m still into reading fantasy and all, but why all of this…different stuff.
Writing
Remember any posts or mentions about a book in process called Thorns of Salvation? And mentions of a character named Abanna from the Aelathia world? Two books are currently in development, and for me, that requires research. All of this is a part of my research to turn out the best product possible.
Yes, I know Weaving and Musings isn’t fully edited yet…and I’ll be brutally frank with you. ::Cough, cough:: I needed a mental break from that book after having my wife’s grandfather die, after all the stuff going on with the family, after being sick and exhausted and spasming, I’ve worked on that book (or the Aelathia series), for about half of my life, and I just needed to pause to try to do some recuperating. Had a good vacation in St. Louis over Thanksgiving with Sarah, Esther, and my side of the family –and was sick so couldn’t go to the festivities,(lol) wouldn’t you know?
I’m hoping my health evens out here so I can get back into action. We had been going through tightening up Weaving and Musings and giving it a nice polishing gleam, and I’m headed back that direction….but there’s “fallout” coming. From this first book. And it’s big. And needs proper research…and mindblowing, and I’m also getting into the heads of new characters plus touching up my version of the Elves, humanity’s best friend. ::cough, cough::
Anyway, so even with all of that, I’m learning so much about farming, about sustainable lifestyles, about prepping, about biosphere technology, about zombies and viruses and venom and…I’m probably saying too much. And I still haven’t gotten around to researching more about Abraham Lincoln and William Wilberforce. I guess I have been busy…
Well, here’s hopping that A’banna’s Tome: An Aelathia Chronicle, the short story featuring the title character, makes it to the big leagues, as it’s been submitted. It provides a fascinating background on what’s to come in the Aelathia series as well as in Thorns of Salvation. Frankly, it’s just all connected.
In the meantime, wishing you all a “Warm, Full Winter” from all of the characters in Aelathia, and a blessed and wonderful holiday season from my family to you and yours. Hopefully, you’re not sick. If you are, get a Kindle.
